چکیده

Wireless local area networks (WLANs) provide mobility and convenience to users, Communications may be cut off when mobile stations travel between cells. Wireless data connections have high bit error rates, low bandwidth and long delays. Therefore, it is very important to improve their loss performance. In this paper, our main contribution is to analyze and evaluate the throughput performance of WLANs. We describe OPNET implementations for finetuning the IEEE 802.11 layer related parameters. Through simulation we demonstrate that WLAN performance can be improved by tuning parameters such as buffer size, fragmentation threshold and request to send (RTS) thresholds. In this paper we emphasize on buffer size parameter. Customizing this parameter opposes to using the values specified in the standards will reduce delays, increase throughput and reduce load on nodes. Then finally the results are compiled to improve the performance of wireless local area networks. KeywordsWLAN, OPNET, Delay, Throughput, Load

Rising up the Performance of Wireless Local Area Network by Varying Fragmentation Threshold using OPNET

As all can see that the demand of WLAN is increasing gradually, so here it is necessary to improve the performance of WLAN. There are many parameters which can directly affect the performance of WLAN like data rate, modulation scheme, buffer size, RTS threshold etc. One of them is fragmentation threshold. In this paper we are rising up the performance of WLAN by moderating the value of fragment...

Performance and Handoff Evaluation of Heterogeneous Wireless Networks (hwns) Using Opnet Simulator

The need for coupling Heterogeneous Wireless Networks (HWNs) such as WLAN, WiMAX or UMTS, play a great role in developing towards fourth generation of wireless networks. Hence, the algorithms for these networks must be developed especially handoff algorithms to present a better performance in such heterogeneous networks. In this paper, several projects have different types of networks were impl...

Improving TCP Performance over 802.11 WLAN with Radio Network Feedback

A new technique is proposed that enables TCP to distinguish wireless packet losses from congestion related packet losses. This is achieved by introducing a wireless enhancement proxy (WENP) at layer 3 in the base station that monitors the TCP packet flows in both directions, detects wireless packet drops and provides feedback to the TCP sender using one of the TCP header reserved bits. The stan...
